Teeth Cleaning
Our hygienist is very well-trained and experienced, and uses gentle techniques
Thorough, professional cleaning is important for the health of your teeth and gums. Routine professional cleanings will remove the accumulations of plaque and calculus deposits that form on your teeth.
Plaque is a sticky, clear biofilm made up of the bacteria found in your mouth. This bacteria feed on the carbohydrates and sugars in your diet. As it feeds, the bacteria produce acids which causes tooth decay and gum disease. If the plaque is not removed daily by proper brushing and flossing, it can harden and turn into calculus (tartar).
Good oral hygiene and thorough professional cleanings are necessary for the prevention of both dental and medical diseases.
We have an excellent dental hygienist who is very experienced, knows how to clean gently, and is very thorough.

Fillings
Fillings can be placed simply and comfortably. We always use the highest-quality composite (white) filling materials instead of amalgam (silver) fillings.
Gum Treatment - How we help you stop gum disease
For minor to intermediate gum disease we perform Deep Cleaning (also called Scaling and Root Planing) employing a state-of-the-art ultrasonic scaler to safely remove the bacteria and hard deposits (calculus) from under the gums.
Deep Cleaning eliminates a large portion of the bacteria and calculus (tartar) attached to the root. Because it is not possible to remove all of the bacteria, we also use Arestin® therapy. Arestin is an antibiotic placed under the gums to rid the pockets of all infectious bacteria.
Symptoms of gum disease
Factors that contribute to gum disease include poor oral hygiene, irregular professional dental cleanings, smoking or chewing tobacco, certain medications, defective fillings, crooked teeth and systemic diseases.
Warning signs of gum disease are:
- Gums that bleed during tooth brushing
- Gums that have pulled away from the teeth
- Persistent bad breath or bad taste
- Permanent teeth that are loose or separating
- Any change in the way your teeth fit together when you bite
A healthy lifestyle, regular brushing and flossing, and regular visits to the dentist for cleanings are the best way to keep your gums healthy and to avoid gum disease.
What is gum disease and what causes it?
Gum disease is the #1 cause of adult tooth loss in the US!
In a healthy state, the gums are pink and firm and fit tightly around the teeth. There is no bleeding when they are brushed or gently probed. There is very little space between the teeth and gums for bacteria to build up.
If bacteria are not removed routinely and effectively, the gums can become red and swollen and will bleed easily. This first stage of gum disease is Gingivitis (infection of the gums). This may not be readily visible, especially in between and around the back teeth, but the space between the gums and teeth becomes larger, forming a pocket where the bacteria can grow and multiply.
As the space deepens, the bacteria change and become more aggressive. Your body starts to fight this infection. The combination of the bacteria and your body's response to them, leads to loss of bone that supports the teeth. This is periodontal disease or periodontitis ("per" meaning around, "dont" meaning tooth and "itis" meaning inflammation or infection).
It is very important that the presence and severity of gum disease be properly diagnosed. Following a thorough examination of the gums, an appropriate treatment plan can be developed to prevent periodontal disease and its progression.
“Painless dentistry can be found here...”
ShirLee and I are very pleased by our experiences at Anderson Dental Care. Painless dentistry can be found here! We are so impressed that Dr. Anderson takes the time to call us in the evening to check on us after a procedure is done earlier in the day. Shirlee and I are both impressed by all the up-to-date equipment Dr. Anderson uses in his practice, especially the CEREC machine that makes the crown right in his office! Now that is progress!
